If you want to share your passion for flying, this course is for you! This is a great way to build experience and give back to the aviation industry.
Your instructor rating training will allow you to pass on your knowledge and teach others how to fly an airplane.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the schedule? A usual schedule is a class meeting once a week for 4 hours with class 1, two individual flights per week with each candidate by class 1, and a lot of homework and practicing by the instructor group on each other.
- How long does it take to complete the instructor rating? For an average-skill hard working candidate, it should take about 4 months full-time.
- What are the prerequisites? Even though Transport Canada requires only a CPL and 20h of instruments, to assure the high quality of instructor training, Canadian Flight Centre requires:
- CPL or ATPL
- Successful in-house practice written exam
- Successful flight checkout, incl. being comfortable with the local airspace
- Mountain check
- Tailwheel course if applicable (for tailwheel instructors)
- Reading assigned by class 1 instructor (2-3 books)
- Are there any jobs I can do at the school while I am doing my instructor rating? Depending on your skills and experience, it is possible that you might help in dispatch or maintenance. Selected candidates can be offered ground school teaching or charter pilot flying.
- In the end, do I get a job as an instructor at your school? Potentially. As some of our current instructors are moving up to airlines, we regularly hire new instructors. We usually prefer hiring our own graduates. However, we cannot make a commitment beforehand - a lot depends on your performance during the instructor's class.
